Property Details
The Open Spear Ranch Family Partnership consists of three separate units, each consisting of numerous contiguous parcels. The farthest western unit consists of approximately 7,292 deeded acres. The smaller of the three units sits in the center, and consists of 2,920 deeded acres. To the east about five miles sits the balance of approximately 6,400 acres of which all are deeded except a 640 acre landlocked State section.
This region of Montana can be classified as a humid continental climate, meaning warm to hot summers, cold winters, precipitation distributed throughout the year and four distinct seasons. Average precipitation is between 13 and 14 inches annualy.
The Open Spear Ranch Family Partnership is one of the better hunting properties that we at PLC have seen come on the market in quite some time. High elk and deer densities, quality forage and great genetics combine for excellent hunting opportunities. The ranch has the uncommon characteristic of being a trophy bull ranch but also being in a general tag unit, which is very rare, especially in Montana. Experts will agree, most of the trophy elk you’ll find in Montana are in the central and eastern parts of the state. These eastern ranches, where true Montana giant bulls roam, are almost all in special draw/permit units.
Beings that the Open Spear Ranch Family Partnership is located in a general tag unit, it allows the buyer to hunt the ranch with their weapon of choice for an astonishing 11 weeks of the year, under current Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks regulations. Also, it allows for managed, selective harvest on the elk herd as one no longer need to rely on the draw to obtain a special permit. This alone is a huge asset when trying to properly manage big game quality in Montana.
Along with the superb elk hunting the ranch has to offer, trophy mule deer, whitetail deer, antelope and upland game birds can be found throughout the ranch. In our opinion, it is the combination of these factors that truly make the Open Spear Ranch a one-of-a-kind Montana property.
Mineral Rights
